- A fisherman and his young apprentice are perched on an overhanging cliff, being crushed by violent waves. The foamy water resembles that of the famous Great Wave off Kanagawa. The serenity of Mt. Fuji rising above the fog balances out the turbulent seas. The fisherman’s posture and his extended lines, cast out, copy the triangle form of Mt. Fuji. This symmetry is often seen in many of Hokusai’s prints. Using only three colors, brown, green, and blue, he captures the daily life of a fisherman, using gradation and subtle tones.
